ORSHI is a local, not-for-profit organization focused on removing the root causes of underdevelopment.
The Organisation for Rural Self-Help Initiatives (ORSHI) is a local Non-Governmental, not-for-profit Organisation that seeks to promote a self-development process that removes the causes of underdevelopment and poverty, through education, support, service provision, and participation in Tanzania. ORSHI works hard directly with communities in remote rural areas of Tanzania to find sustainable solutions to overcome poverty and injustices. Many of these rural communities are very isolated without reliable roads, electricity, clean and safe water, schools, or clinics/dispensaries. With limited resources, we have established programs that are providing long-term solutions to communities in need in the villages of Tanzania.

Overall Goal
The ORSHI’s overall goal is to empower the poor and vulnerable to drive positive change in their own lives in order to achieve their own goals towards a full and rich life.
Objective
- To facilitate for agricultural development and improvement of the community,
- Promotion and protection of community health and provision of better health services,
- To empower community’s learning in rural and peri-urban areas so as to reduce gender inequalities and discrimination.

- To promote and enable rural and peri-urban community members to initiate income-generating activities that improve their well-being and quality of life,
- To empower communities to promote and protect human rights,
- To promote the protection of the environment, water provision, and improved sanitation.

Our Governance
ORSHI operates with a minimal team of experienced personnel. This team supports and advises all levels of the organization: AGM, Board of Directors, and individual members. We build and manage relationships with partners and donors, then work to meet ORSHI’s commitments to these organizations.
General Meeting
Supreme governing body that meets twice a year. AGM determines ORSHI's agenda, including policies, strategies and budgets.
Board of Directors
Advisory organ that meets four times a year. The Board reports to the AGM and sets ORSHI's strategic direction. It supervises the Secretariat through the Executive Director.
Management Team
Management team that implements ORSHI's strategic plan. It is led by the Executive Director, who oversees the departments below.
Our Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the ORSHI activity plan.
- Encourage members to participate in, and contribute to ORSHI objectives.
- Ensure all donor projects are completed and commitments are met.
- Plan and prepare the detailed project and organizational budgets.
- Assist the Board in defining the structure and strategy of the ORSHI to maximize its impact.
